TREATMENT
Before you even set foot in the New Patient room,
we ask you to fill in a form which will give us a better
understanding about your background and current health
status. If you have copies of relevant MRIs, bone scans, CT
scans, or X-rays (film or CD-Rom), please bring these with
you; if these have been made but you don’t have a copy, we
can request duplicates from the hospital or other
caregiver. These are important because they give us a
better understanding of you and the health issues you wish
to discuss with us. If you haven’t received a new patient
intake form from us in the mail, please arrive 10 minutes
earlier to fill it in.
Intake Exam and Report of Findings
After your health history has been taken, an extensive
physical exam will be performed consisting of neurological,
orthopedic, and chiropractic tests. The results and
explanation of these tests and diagnoses is a part of the
second visit, when we present and discuss the Report of
Findings. Also at this time a treatment plan, prognosis,
and possible ergonomic and sports advice will be discussed;
if appropriate, appointments for a treatment program will
also be scheduled.
Treatment
techniques
With a chiropractic treatment, a small purposeful impulse
is given to a joint. Sometimes a small pop is heard. This
sound is a result of a quick pressure change within the
joint. This type of treatment modality is often used in
chiropractic.
Other treatment methods
- An “Activator” (an implement which gives smaller thrusts
for a milder treatment).
- “Traction” (Cox) and “Drop” (Thompson) techniques.
Muscle techniques
Dijkstra Chiropractic also uses muscle techniques such as
Trigger Point Therapy, Myo-Fascial Release, Active Release
Therapy (ART), Kinesiotape and Post-Isometric Relaxation
(PIR) to help treat adhesions between muscles. These are
often used to complement the chiropractic treatment.
Dijkstra Chiropractic makes use of all of the
above-mentioned techniques to create the most appropriate
and effective individual treatment program for you.
